Description of Research Interests

Dr. Avinash Chandra’s research interest is computational fluid dynamics (CFD), non-Newtonian/ Newtonian fluid flow and heat transfer, industrial scale residence time distribution (RTD) analysis, application of radiotracer, extraction of valuable components (essential oil, bioactive molecules, etc.) from the natural herbs / aromatic plants, etc. He is working on computational fluid dynamics (CFD) of the fundamental and real/industrial problems to explore flow/ heat/ mass transfer fields and engineering parameters. It includes the CFD of Newtonian and non-Newtonian power-law fluids.

Dr. Chandra has undertaken a DAE-BRNS sponsored research project entitled “Investigation of Hydrodynamics and RTD of Pulp Digester Using Radiotracer Technique” with the collaboration of BARC and Satia Industries Ltd. Muktsar (Punjab). The industrial scale pulp digester is being analysed with using various radiotracers. A pilot scale pulp digester is also designed, fabricated and installed by Dr. Chandra as a departmental asset for future research.

Additionally, Dr. Chandra is actively working on the process development for the extraction of valuable components (essential oil, bioactive molecules, etc.) from the natural herbs / medicinal and aromatic plants. He has completed two sponsored project on it funded by UGC and TIET. A continuous water circulation distillation (CWCD) and solvent free microwave distillation (SFMD) have been developed by him to obtain the essential oil from herbs/ medicinal and aromatic plants.
