Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)

Three key Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) to guide our educational and research initiatives. During the last six months, the department focused on:

     SDG 4: Quality Education
SDG 6: Clean Water and Sanitation
SDG 7: Affordable and Clean Energy

SDG 4: Quality Education

To ensure inclusive and equitable quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities.

Activities Conducted
1) A Two-Day Workshop on “Process Modelling and Simulation using Aspen Plus” was organized by the Department of Chemical Engineering, Thapar Institute of Engineering and Technology (TIET), Patiala on 01–02 May 2026. Expert sessions conducted by Prof. Rakesh Kumar (RGIPT) covered fundamentals of process modelling, thermodynamics, unit operations, reactors, distillation, and heat exchanger design using Aspen Plus, along with industrial case studies. The workshop aimed to enhance quality technical education by providing hands-on training in process simulation and bridging theoretical knowledge with industrial applications. It brought together B.Tech, Ph.D. students, and faculty from multiple engineering disciplines, promoting inclusive and interdisciplinary learning.

2)  An expert talk on “Application of Safety Standards in Process Industries: Responsibilities of Engineers in the Insurance Sector” was organized by the Department of Chemical Engineering, Thapar Institute of Engineering & Technology (TIET), Patiala. The session was delivered by Mr. Mani Trivedi, a professional with expertise in property and risk management, industrial safety, and insurance engineering. The objective of the talk was to provide students with practical insight into industrial safety standards and their implementation in real-world process industries.

3)  A lecture on “Microscopic Concept of Entropy” was organized by the Department of Chemical Engineering, Thapar Institute of Engineering & Technology (TIET), Patiala on 12 March 2026. The session was delivered by Dr. Sudhir Singh, who provided insights into the fundamental concepts of thermodynamics with a focus on the microscopic interpretation of entropy.

SDG 6: Clean Water and Sanitation
To ensure the availability and sustainable management of water and sanitation for all.

Activities Conducted
1)  An expert talk on “Wastewater Treatment and BIS Standards” was organized by the Department of Chemical Engineering, Thapar Institute of Engineering & Technology (TIET), Patiala on 20 February 2026 at C Hall. The session was delivered by Dr. Meenakshi from SRF Ltd. and Dr. Metali Sarkar from HPCL-Mittal Energy Limited (HMEL), with the objective of providing students, research scholars, and faculty members with practical exposure to wastewater treatment technologies, industrial challenges, and regulatory frameworks.

2)  An experiential learning activity on “Wastewater Treatment Plant Design” was organized by the Department of Chemical Engineering, Thapar Institute of Engineering & Technology (TIET), Patiala on 16–17 April 2026 for second-year students. The objective of the activity was to provide hands-on exposure to wastewater treatment system design and its industrial applications.

SDG 7: Affordable and Clean Energy
The project “Techno-Commercial Feasibility Analysis of Torrefied Pellet Production” undertaken in collaboration with NEERPATI BIOFUELS PRIVATE LIMITED contributes significantly toward SDG
