Message from Head of the Department

Dr. Avinash Chandra

Established in 1992, the Department of Chemical Engineering at Thapar Institute of Engineering and Technology (TIET) is committed to delivering world-class education and fostering innovation with a strong emphasis on sustainability. Guided by our vision and mission, we prepare graduates who are equipped to excel in a dynamic global environment and contribute meaningfully to sustainable technological advancement, addressing the urgent environmental and societal challenges of our time.
We currently offer two pathways for the Bachelor of Engineering (B.E.) in Chemical Engineering:
1. B.E. Chemical Engineering – 4 year program. At the end of the second year, students may choose an Elective Focus in one of the following areas: Petroleum, Energy, Materials, or Chemical Process Engineering.
2. B. Chem. Engg. (2+2) Dual Degree Program – two years at TIET followed by two years at UNSW Australia, leading to a B. Chem. Engg. degree from UNSW.
Our curriculum blends strong theoretical foundations with hands-on exposure through industry-oriented projects, field visits, industrial training, capstone projects, and experiential learning opportunities.
Beyond academics, TIET offers a vibrant campus environment that promotes holistic development through a wide range of co curricular, extra curricular, and experiential learning activities. The campus actively nurtures student led entrepreneurial ventures and start ups, with dedicated support from the Centre for Training and Development for honing soft skills, and the Centre for Industrial Liaison and Placement for connecting students with leading recruiters.
Our alumni have consistently distinguished themselves on the global stage, holding key positions in prestigious organizations such as Reliance Industries Ltd., Honeywell UOP, and HPCL Mittal Energy Limited (HMEL). Many have risen to leadership roles, driving innovation, shaping industry practices, and making transformative contributions to the field of Chemical Engineering worldwide.
By joining the Department of Chemical Engineering at TIET, you will step into a proud legacy built on innovation, academic excellence, and global leadership. Our exceptional programs—strengthened by our exclusive collaboration with UNSW Australia—are designed to equip you with expertise in highly sought after fields like Chemical Engineering, enriched with world class knowledge, real world skills, and international exposure.
